Footy boots drive positive engagement in the Pilbara

The power of donating sports equipment is extraordinary.

No one knows this better than West Coast Eagles Youth Engagement Coordinator - Hedland, Claudia Bailey. Claudia provides opportunities for Pilbara youth to be positively engaged through footy. This includes Freestyle Footy - a weekly session in South Hedland, providing informal footy games, fruit and dinner for young people aged 6 and up.

Claudia is also involved in a number of carnivals, facilitating football games for participants, many of whom don't own a pair of boots, which is a requirement for participation.

That is where Fair Game comes in - sending 48 pairs of footy boots and 26 footballs to Claudia in September to support these programs, opening the door to participation.  Positive engagement through footy builds a sense of social inclusion, teaches teamwork and improves mental and physical health.

"Thank you so much for this support, the kids were stoked to get kitted out in footy boots and (new) socks for the games.  39 girls took part in the recent Warinypirna Cup in South Hedland organised by the West Coast Eagles. The girls, aged 11-20 years, travelled from a range of different regions in the Pilbara for the event. Fair Game's donations enabled us to lend footy boots to the majority of participants who didn't own a pair."
