Fair Game shares how we remove barriers and increase participation of at-risk young people in sport based activities at our Regional Hubs.

Last week our Head of Operations, Lisa Butterworth, was privileged to present on behalf of Fair Game at this year's sold-out WA Sport Industry Conference, hosted by SportWest.

Bringing together over 500 leaders, ministers, and peak body representatives, the event was a great opportunity for Fair Game to share lessons learned engaging at-risk youth through our Regional Game On! Hub program.

This year’s theme - Beyond Sport: Where health, community and economy connect - reinforced a critical truth: sport isn't just about what happens on the field, it is a major driver for preventative health, community connection, and economic growth.

Lisa’s presentation “How an informal format removes barriers to participation and is successfully engaging at-risk youth in sport in Broome, Kununurra and South Hedland”, was part of a session on Preventative Health & Lifelong Participation. It explained how our flexible, informal program format which prioritises removing barriers to participation, increases accessibility, builds community trust, and connects youth with sport, healthy food, and active pathways.

In 2025 our three Game On! Hubs had 3039 session participants over 98 sessions.

With two thirds of children currently falling short of the recommended 60 minutes of daily activity, accessibility to sport across the lifespan is critical.
