Najette Alaraibi
Najette joined the board of Fair Game in late 2021. Najette completed a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts in Gender and Cultural Studies at Murdoch University in 2014, and Masters in Legal Practice at ANU in 2021.
It was during her studies that Najette developed a keen interest in access to justice issues for vulnerable persons, in particular children and young people. In 2015 Najette presented at the Young People and the Law conference facilitated by Swinburne University in Prato, Italy. Najette spoke about her research in relation to the high incarceration rate of children in WA, in particular, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
Najette’s interest in access to justice issues took Najette to the Pilbara where she worked with individuals experiencing legal issues associated with domestic and family violence. In 2019 Najette’s work was recognised as she was awarded the Women Lawyers of WA Rural, Regional and Remote Lawyer of the Year and was nominated for the Law Society’s Lawyer of the year (under 5 years PQE) award. She feels blessed to have lived and worked on Kariyarra country and looks back at her time there with gratitude. Najette now lives on Whadjuk Noongar boodja and is Principal Advisor in the Indigenous Affairs team at Woodside Energy. Najette is committed to staying connected to the community in the Pilbara and considers it imperative to be on the ground regularly to form and nurture trusting and strong relationships with the community.
As a Fair Game board member Najette draws on her legal knowledge, her interest in supporting healthy lifestyle choices for young people and her passion for combatting access issues experienced by young people living regionally.
