Maneesh's Story, Volunteer – Fair Game

VOLUNTEER

Maneesh’s Story

I was introduced to Fair Game by a friend who volunteers, while I was taking a year off from university studies. The organisation appeals to me because it combined four interests of mine - preventative healthcare, First Nations Australia, recycling and traversing Western Australia.

I have completed a dozen trips with Fair  Game and a highlight has been the range and diversity of places I have been able to visit. From helping out with flood relief in Fitzroy Crossing, to the Martu Youth festival in Nullagine (with Ngurra Kujunka) to the Yalgoo Emu Festival, to being Santa for the kids at a Nullagine Christmas. Being able to share trips to these places with Fair Game’s teams, who are some of the best and most genuine people around, has been such a treat.

The purpose that Fair Game provides is second to none. There is no substitute for being able to help in rural and remote communities. This has nurtured a desire to continue my support for those living in remote communities that I will carry for the rest of my life - and have already begun to act upon in my (very) fledgling law career.

An added bonus of volunteering with Fair Game has been fulfilling my passion to get to know my home state of WA. It is such a large and wonderful place, but so hard to traverse on your own. I am so grateful to have been able to see the beauty of WA.

It has been such a treat to be able to see Fair Game grow and evolve over the years. The resilience of the organisation during COVID, and how it has recovered, speaks to the nature of the people it attracts and the good work the organisation does.
