Commonwealth Games Athletes inspire next generation

In October we were lucky enough to work with Commonwealth Games Australia to bring athletes Shayna Jack, Kyle Vander-Kuyp and Anabelle Smith, to visit the Pilbara communities of Warralong, Yandeyarra and Marble Bar.  After joining in the Fair Game  activities, the athletes shared their stories about the transformational impact sport has had in their lives.

Kyle Vander-Kuyp commenting on the experience said, “These conversations can unlock a young person to think, I do want something more for myself - so that’s what means a lot to me. One kid said to me ‘You’ve got me thinking - could I do something like this?’ it was a real highlight to me and sums up what we are doing out here.”

"The genuine connection the athletes are making with the children through this engagement adds a powerful dimension to the work we do”, added Nicki Bardwell, Fair Game CEO. “It’s so inspiring for young people to see what is possible through sport.”

Our thanks to Hancock Iron Ore and the Department of Creative Industries Tourism and Sport who support our programs in the Pilbara.
